KJV

John 18:38 — Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

When Christ told Pontius Pilate that He should bear witness unto the truth — every one that is of the truth heareth my voice —

John 18:37 — Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?

Like Pilate, many are asking the same question today

Like Pilate, many people are asking the same question in these last days.

Some have a strange and broken relationship with truth; therefore, there are many plausible opinions concerning truth.

There are those who appear desirous of knowing Bible Truth but, like Pontius Pilate, are not willing to accept it as it is in Christ.

There are others who struggle on their own to define Truth without the help of the Holy Spirit.

Truth is of God, and Christ is truth made visible

According to the dictionary, Truth is in accordance with fact or reality — it’s the opposite of lie. In John 14:6 (KJV), Christ saith unto him [Thomas]:

John 14:6 — Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Truth is of God — it’s the opposite of lies and deception, and Christ is the visible manifestation, or the epitome, of Truth.

Not one way among many Christ did not say He knew the way or taught the truth. He said He is the way and the truth — which is why Pilate's question had its answer standing in front of him.

Truth must be studied, and rightly divided

Bible Truth must be carefully studied and applied according to time and place. 2 Timothy 2:15 says:

2 Timothy 2:15 — Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Known, shining through us, and imparted as it is in Christ

Firstly, we must have a knowledge of the Truth that is manifested through Christ.

John 8:32 — And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

A true knowledge of Bible Truth and compliance with it is the only way to liberate oneself from mental and spiritual slavery.

Knowing comes first Christ spoke these words to those who believed on Him, and set a condition in the verse before: if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

Secondly, the truth must illuminate and transform us into the image of Christ. Psalm 119:130 tells us that “The entrance of His words giveth light and understanding to the simple” — “The truth of God’s Word giveth light.”

Psalm 119:130 — The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Light for the simple The psalm does not promise understanding to the clever. It promises it to the simple — to anyone who lets the word in.

Finally, the Truth must be rightly divided and imparted as it is in Christ, because through the truth souls are sanctified and made ready to enter the everlasting kingdom of God.

Set free from the bondage of sin

A better knowledge of the Bible Truth and its history is necessary in these last days.

The Truth of the Bible can set us free from the bondage of sin, which is burdensome and most grievous. The freedom from sin and guilt is the greatest liberty, and we must know Bible Truth in order for us to be made free by following it.

Maranatha.

On how the word of truth can be twisted, and how to tell the difference, Can Your Bible Deceive You? opens with Matthew 24:24 — false Christs and false prophets who, if it were possible, would deceive the very elect — and its second and third parts set the King James text beside the modern versions.

If this study has raised something you would like to talk through, the team reads every message: ask a Bible question, or send a prayer request.

On knowing Christ, who is the truth, Getting to Know Jesus sets out why knowing Him, and not only knowing about Him, is eternal life itself.

Made in His Likeness: Part Two

Genesis 1:27 says God created man in His own image. This second part takes up what that image was made for — to satisfy the things of God and reflect His love, and to sow and to reap — and how Christ answers the death that sin sowed.

Can Your Bible Deceive You? Part Three

Isaiah 14:12 names the one who fell from heaven: O Lucifer, son of the morning. This third part sets the King James text beside the modern versions — Lucifer renamed the morning star, "which art in heaven" gone from Luke 11:2, and the three that bear record in heaven missing from 1 John 5:7.

Can Your Bible Deceive You? Part Two

Ephesians 5:6 warns: let no man deceive you with vain words. This second part answers the question Part One asked — yes, your Bible can deceive you, not because the original text lies, but through misinterpretation, twisting and misapplying it.
