John 3:5…. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
When John came baptizing with water, he sends a clear message that this baptism would not suffice; but the baptism of the Holy Ghost was needed. Mat 3:11 – “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. Christ endorsed John when He said, Therefore, “a man must be born of water and the Spirit”.
Fire is a symbol of consecration, purification and sanctification. When we give ourselves to God to be sanctified, and cleansed, He fills us with the Holy Ghost and power.
- THE BAPTISM OF WATER IS VERY IMPORTANT – IT IS SYMBOLIC OF DEATH BURIAL AND RESURRECTION, Rom 6:3 -4.
- ITS AN OPEN AND PUBLIC DECLARATION THAT WE CHOSE TO FOLLOW CHRIST
- BAPTISM OF WATER IS THE GATEWAY TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS (Mat 3:15), BUT WE NEED MORE THAN THE BAPTISM OF WATER – WE NEED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY-GHOST AND FIRE WATERY BAPTISM IS (the answer of a good conscience toward God) 1 Peter 3:21
We need to a deeper baptism baptismal experience than that of just water-we need to be baptised by the HOLY GHOST.
When we are baptized with the Holy Ghost we are zealous of good works, because we are partakers of Divine nature. When we are just baptised with water, it’s easy to continue telling lies, continue to be dishonest and commit adultery; but when we are baptised with the HOLY GHOST we produced the character of Christ.
He who receives not this baptism has neither right to the kingdom of God nor the tree of life. To enter earth CHRIST had to be born in it; to enter heaven we must received the new birth experience.
The baptism of water and the HOLY GHOST is symbolical total spiritual purification by the administration of the Spirit of God. This was prophesied many years before by the prophet Ezekiel (Eze_36:25-27) Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
This new birth experience is the only entrance into “the kingdom of God,” the baptism of not just water but of the regeneration of the Holy Ghost (Tit_3:5).
