The Creation of the World. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 . All beginnings must begin by God, because only God has no beginning. Always begin everything with God first. Let Him be your first thought every morning, the first aim and purpose of all your activities. Let God be your beginning and your end and your day will be bright.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
God made man made after He had created everything, man became the finishing work of creation, and cannot be seen as helping God at any time. Creation reveals the wisdom, power and nature of God. Man’s duty is to look after the earth and be obedient to God.
Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. God did not rest because of weariness, exhaustion, or reluctance: but because His work of Creation was ended. After creation He continues to work, John_5:17. We must enter into rest as He did, Hebrews 4:11. When we enter into God’s rest, we rest from our physical labour, spiritual and emotional fears and anxieties; we cease to worry, and trust Him who makes us complete in Himself.
Genesis 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Every man is entrusted with a garden in life, that he may cultivate, dress and keep it. In the garden of life, there is no reason for idleness. Whether it be the garden of your heart or the garden of your family, let it not be choked with weeds, but cultivate it to produce beautiful flowers and fruits for God.
Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. God rested on the seventh day, He blessed and sanctified it making it a holy day which, He did not do to any other day; hence Sabbath, is the name of the seventh day of the week (Saturday), signifying it a day of rest. Rest for the body from toil and labour, and rest to the mind from all worldly care and anxieties. If we work our minds with worldly activities and plans on the Sabbath day- we are not resting according to God’s plan. It is by the authority of God that the Sabbath is set apart for rest and religious purposes, as the six days of the week are appointed for labour Ezekiel 46:1.
Genesis 2:20. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
God entrusted the naming of the creatures to Adam- he was to have dominion over them. He was to exercise the great brain power that God gave him. Adam learned two important things while he named the creatures: The creatures all came in pairs, but he was alone, and also, among the creatures, there was not a companion for him. Adam was a wise, intelligent and perfect man, and knew that he must wait on his Creator.
Genesis 2:22. And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. The Garden of Eden could hardly remained a paradise without the woman. It takes a woman and a man to bring out the beauty of God’s plan. Human love and companion-ship is one of the main blessings of life. Adam was able to name the animals, but now it was time for him to give a name to his wife. Eve was given to compliment the man, but also as a type Church that was regenerated from the opened side of Christ. See Joh_19:34. God brings Eve to Adam and such a marriage is truly blessed and built on the basis of love. Ephesians 5:25. Two of the same would be fruitless, meaningless and lonely.
