# Britain in Trouble

> Britain once made its boast in God and championed Christian values across the globe. Then prosperity came, God was set aside, and no law since has closed the gates.

Great Britain was one of the champions of the world during the Industrial
Revolution. In spite of all its mistakes, Britain led many important
developments, and was a champion of family life and of Christian religious
values across the globe. The nation used to make its boast in God — especially
in times of conquest, and in victory after difficult wars.

## A nation that knew where its strength lay

The people of these beautiful islands knew that they could not be Great Britain
without the help of the Supernatural God. Winston Churchill put it plainly at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949:

> The flame of Christian ethics is still our highest guide. To guard and cherish
> it is our first interest, both spiritually and materially. The fulfilment of
> spiritual duty in our daily life is vital to our survival. Only by bringing it
> into perfect application can we hope to solve for ourselves the problems of
> this world, and not of this world alone.

That was said within living memory. It would be difficult to say it in public
life today.

## Prosperity, and the quiet setting aside of God

After the Industrial Revolution — and the accumulation of much wealth — God was
no longer considered an integral part of the United Kingdom. Following down the
path of humanism, secularism and materialism, the core values of family and
religion deteriorated. With major discoveries in science and technology, the
existence of God was greatly questioned and challenged by those who thought
belief in God irrelevant.

Those classified as the elite and the wise sat in conferences and board
meetings, where they came up with shrewd economic, scientific and political
plans. With their material and scientific success, and with their social,
national and global aspirations, they thought Britain could prosper without God.

## Sucked dry of spirituality

Since the time of the Industrial Revolution, the desire to increase in riches
and fame has absorbed the whole nation. The cares and pleasures of worldliness,
pride and self-indulgence have absorbed the people and sucked them dry of
spirituality.

This great nation, which helped publish the Bible to the world, is near enough
void of spirituality. With rapid scientific discovery, technological advancement
and new invention, the major pillars of society — family values and true
religion — have been neglected; and with the rise of globalisation, mass
migration and what is believed to be integration, the flood gates of evil were
opened in Britain and in the world in general.

## Laws cannot close the gates

Strict measures and stringent laws have been introduced by heads of government
and law enforcement to close those gates again, but the problem remains
unresolved, and it will not go away.

Anti-social behaviour law. Anti-corruption law. Anti-terrorism law. Hate crime
law. The respect agenda. These are some of the measures taken to ease the
pressures on society, and some of them have impinged on civil liberty. But those
who form the laws of society and those who enforce them have the same moral and
spiritual problem as everybody else.

It was once said in Parliament that prisons are not working to stop criminals
from being criminals. The problems of society cannot be solved by politicians.
They cannot be solved by more legislation, and they cannot be solved by putting
people in prison.

## There is one solution

There is only one solution for Britain as a nation, and that is to go back to
the God of former years and to the good values of the past.

> **Proverbs 14:34** — Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to
> any people.

Whatever is morally wrong cannot be politically right in the eyes of God.
Without God there is nothing in politics to counteract the flow of evil, and the
exaltation of a nation will come to nothing without true righteousness.

**Britain needs the Lord** — otherwise this nation will continue down the path
of worse decline.

kindred, tongue and people: fear God, and give glory to Him. Begin with
